Developed through extensive research and experimentation, Treox Disinfectant offers a proactive approach to combating harmful diseases, reducing disease transmission, and significantly improving the health and productivity of fish. In a collaborative effort with a major food company, Treox Disinfectant was used to treat 170 gutted salmon to assess its impact on germ reduction and shelf life extension. The salmon were treated for 8 minutes in a 2% working solution of Treox, containing approximately 100 ppm active ingredient.

The pre-test results demonstrated that no adverse changes occurred in the fish even with a 3% working solution. The quality assurance department of the food company confirmed that the 2% solution was effective, with the possibility of using higher concentrations without affecting fish structure. Independent laboratory analysis revealed substantial differences between untreated and Treox-treated salmon. After 7 days of storage at 2°C, untreated salmon scales showed a total viable cell (TVC) count of 22,000, and gills showed 38,000. In contrast, Treox-treated salmon exhibited significantly lower TVC counts of 60 on scales and 50 in gills, representing a germ reduction of 367% on scales and 760% in gills.

This notable reduction is attributed to Treox’s “custody effect,” where low concentrations remain active on the fish surface, continually reacting with and destroying microorganisms. This effect contributes to extending the product’s shelf life and maintaining freshness for a longer period.
